Thx 4 post in my crit thread Varthelm.  :)

Yea, going in with Spire Vul Locs & Crit D guns seems to be the critical way to go since Season 8 so good advice for our players.

As far as a certain ratio to aim for is concerned my toons came out of the critical count best when I simply stopped doing such a thing. Not so long ago peeps insisted on a 1:10 by the way. It may be indeed at 1:5 but I would not advise a “best” crit build “possible” by aiming for that ration under the current stuff available.

With 27% Crit H and 203% Crit D on her DHCs as main armaments Neela has a ratio of 1 (Crit H) : 7,5 (Crit D). She uses 5 Locaters and [Crit D]x3 Weapons. The dmg multiplier thx to crits is 1,548 then. The only option I had to force this ratio more to 1:5 now would be to increase the overall Crit H and reduce the Crit D. Could only do so with the weapons modifier since consoles are all Crit H already. A weapons modifier constellation of [Crit H]x2 [CritD] would end Neela up at 31% Crit H & 163% Crit D and a ratio of 1:5,26. Unfortunately the dmg multiplier is now down to 1,5 meaning about ~5% less damage via crits in that example.

I must say that I never use any dmg tracking tools to do some thorough testing. I usually run the upper formulas, read in game numbers and observe closely standard scenarios over and over again (Neela vs. Cube e.g.). Then I decide what to keep and what to get rid of. In most of the cases the crit stuff wins and on my toons it is not unusual that 5-9 consoles contribute to crits. Only when I see that crits deliberately hurt a build too much as far as base damage, purpose or survivability is concerned I refrain from taking it.

On a side note I even reduced Neela's crits a bit on her current Season 9 build. Reason is the new disrupter stuff available (http://sto.gamepedia.com/Counter_Command_Ordnance). Somehow the math experts at cryptic decided to apply its 7,5% 2-piece dmg bonus at a different “plain” than the 13,1% form the Jemi set (http://sto.gamepedia.com/Jem%27Hadar_Space_Set) making the new Undine Rep Set much stronger and effective.

Neela had to decide between:

1) Victory is Life Build (Polaron with Jemi set) – Neela’s old Season 8 Build
- Standby DMG on DHCs without boff & captain abilities engaged: 932,8
- Crits: 27% Crit H & 203% Crit D (multiplier: 1,548)
- Average DMG per shot on DHCs with crits included: ~1444 (without boff & captain abilities engaged)
*All numbers read on itmes not hud

2) Greenpeace Build (Disruptor with Counter Command set) – Neela’s work in progress Season 9 Build
- Standby DMG on DHCs without boff & captain abilities engaged: 986,8
- Crits: 25,2% Crit H  & 203% Crit D (multiplier: 1,512)
- Avarage DMG per shot on DHCs with crits included: ~1492  (without boff & captain abilities engaged)
*All numbers read on itmes not hud

Even though this trade off just gives a slight improovement to direct damage the new build gave me the chance to try out new space gear with other benefits as well so I went for it. Most notably besides the cool undine deflector for escorts is the Romii engine which, in addition with doffs, gives Neela 145 points into manoeuvres whenever she feels like engaging tac team! (so always  :D)

At the moment I’m considering to replace the aft disruptor turret (not the set one) with the shitty Experimental Proton weapon for the full 3 piece set bonus. Insane 10% more Crit H on the grav Photons and 10% more Crit D for all. Would simply have to test that cuz sometimes pulling math is not so important for Neela than simply dealing some MAAAD CRIZ YO!

Criticals Rising with Delta Rising.

With the addition of Delta Rising and the new upgrade system new means of getting criticals for space combat are released and current ones can be enhanced.

1) Starship mastery system to max out.

Depending on what you fly there is the option for:

- Devastating Weaponry: +2.5% Critical Chance
- Enchanced Weapon Banks: +15% Critical Severity

2) Upgrade of current gear:

One is able to upgrade ones so far end game gear vertically from MK XII to MK XIV as well as horizontally in rarity from rare (blue), very rare (purple) or ultra rare (ultraviolet) to eventually epic (gold). Upgrades in both direction grand enhancement to the former crit stats.

To be more concrete we talk about the following items:

- Fleet Spire Vulnerability Exploiters:
MK XII: 8% Crit D

- Fleet Spire Vulnerability Locaters:
MK XII: 1,6% Crit H
MK XIII: 1,7% Crit H
MK XIV: 1,8 % Crit H; 1,9% Crit H

- Assimilated Module:
MK XIV: 1% Crit H & 10,4% Crit D; 1,1% Crit H & 10,9% Crit D; 1,2% Crit H & 11,5% Crit D

- Zero-Point Energy Conduit:
MK XII: 1,8% Crit H
MK XIII: 1,9% Crit H
MK XIV: 2% Crit H

- Tachyokinetic Converter:
MK XII: 0,76% Crit H & 7,6% Crit D
MK XIII: 1% Crit H & 10% Crit D
MK XIV: 1,1% Crit H & 10,6% Crit D;1,1% Crit H & 11,2% Crit D;1,2% Crit H & 12,5% Crit D

- Bioneural Infusion Circuits:

MK XII: 15,2% Crit D
MK XIII: 20% Crit D; 21,2% Crit D
MK XIV: 21,2% Crit D; 23,8% Crit D; 25% Crit D

I will upgrade the list as I stumble over the stats during upgrades. At the moment Neela is quiet busy with her third autobiography “First in everything”. Feel free to contribute here to get a honorable mention in it.

I experiment with Neela’s gear constantly, especially none critical stuff lately to boost base damage. I also got rid of her beloved grav torpedo cuz none energy weapons have such a hard time keeping up compared to energy weapons in STO. Since upgrades are sadly very expensive as far as dil is concerned I’ll work toward a more permanent build which will stick with Disruptor energy. Current info from Tribble indicate that the new Delta Reputation set will be Polaron based but will grand no additional set boosts towards that base energy type. Think with 2 Disruptor amplifying sets, an AMP Fleet core with plasmonic leech console as well as the Nukara 2 piece space set there are very few alternatives to boost raw energy weapons dmg more in this game.

With season 10.5 cryptic made some enhancements to the DMG mod.

Aside from increasing to 3% the mod is put into the damage calculation now at a higher level than it was before. It applies it's bonus now after some other buffs are already counted and not before making it a lot more potent.

From first looks this does not change a lot for Neela or anybody else dedicated to high crit builds. I had a chat with Felisean who recommended against making any build adjustments over it. Discussions in STO forums conclude that around a Crit H rate of about 19% or higher, the D mod still outperforms the new DMG mod. Currently players experience a lot of lag and misfire in PvE so more time is needed until some thorough testing has been done. Also only time will tell what kind of completely new build options will become interesting in the future over this change.

One thing is for certain though. The change is fine for all of us because the casual player and those low on crit should get quiet a buff from this by accident. Especially fleet weapons become solid alternetives for some. Even hardcore players get something for their money now when achieving quality upgrades to epic in form of the fix [Dmg/Acc] mod with the rest of their high end builds being not interrupted.

*Neela acknowledges the change by not referring to the DMG mod as [poopoo]x3 anymore*

Neela was quiet buisy the past moths to make use of the privileged recourses I grand the toon.  :-*

Most noteworthy changes are the integration of discrete Starship Traits which only indirectly relate to damage by heaving a focus on bridge officer power CD time reduction on the basis of high defence values. The aim remains to have the build perform well and well also means to be able to take some beating when on my own or in a bad group.

Another focus has been the energy systems. The goal to get 75% power in all subsystems with weapons at 125% (for the AMP warp core mod) has been archived by the selection of the right core in correlation with the plasmonic leech console, full spec in flow caps and one additional embassy console. The intel power override subsystems safeties was intergraded as well to grand massive power boosts.

Of course Neela remains faithful in criticals with a Crit H rate at ~27% with over 200% Crit D on her main armaments.

Her current build can be fund here:

http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skillplanner/?build=neelasjhss_9361

For me it’s still the most fun to fly compared to all others I have ever made. (DPS records are for other toons). Still I'm proud to be on the brink of 40k DPS on a cannon build in the right circumstances. Even if they are not right Neela smashes Borg quiet hard with an average around 30k in ISA.  :)

To make future build adjustments simpler I recently decided to use Hellspawny’s spreadsheet called “Weapons Damage Calculator (WDC)”. It's quiet good and saves you a lot of experimentations under the current upgrade-pain in STO. Here is the link to the constantly upgraded files where the dudes works enthusiastically to keep this games changing meta updated in the WDC:

-- This post is just made as aid to memory for myslef, not to update or discuss this ancient thread.--

                              Crit H           Crit D         Ratio H:D offered       Favored by peeps

Weapons mods:         2%              20%              1:10                           Crit D
Fleet ground armor:   10%             80%               1:8                            Crit D
Spire TAC Consoles:   1,9%            9,4%              1:5                            Crit H
Delta KIT:                 5%              20%               1:4                            Crit H

Impression:

-> The worth between Crit H and Crit D seems to be in the balance between a ratio of 1:5 and 1:8.

------------------------------------------- math check for ground builds ------------------------------------------------------

Toon basis: 2,5% Crit H & 50% Crit D
Ground trait Precision: 4% Crit H
Ground trait Advanced Targeting Systems: 16% Crit H
Gambling Device win: 10% Crit H & 10% Crit D

>> Ground global: 16,5% Crit H & 76% Crit D

Comparison Delta Kit Mod:

-> Delta Kit [Crit H] mod: (16,5+5)/100 x 76/100 + 1 = 1,1634
-> Delta Kit [Crit D] mod: 16,5/100 x (20+76)/100 + 1 = 1,1584

Comparison Advanced Fleet Armors & Lobi Herlad Armor:

-> Fleet Armor [Crit H] mod: (16,5+10)/100 x 76/100 + 1 = 1,2014
-> Fleet Armor [Crit D] mod: 16,5/100 x (76+80)/100 + 1 = 1,2574
-> Herald Lobi Armor: (16,5+5)/100 x (76+40)/100 + 1 = 1,2494

Attention: If the ground traits and the gambling device are not used the Crit H fleet armor offers better dmg multiplier!

Comparison ground sets:

-> Undine 2 piece ground: (16,5+5)/100 x 76/100 + 1 = 1,1634
-> Nakuhl 2 piece ground: (16,5+2)/100 x (76+30)/100 + 1 = 1,1961

Hehe yea Lee sadly a lot of DPS oriented crowds left the game over S13. Cryptic patched out up to 40% of the performance of players and in most cases the attached gear to it which cost a lot.

It can’t be helped but those who stay will get stronger over it again in the long run. Look at you for example. A few months back to game and already at 100k+ is CCA and playing along in HSE. Well done sir.

Nice for you to poke this old thread. I updated the OP the other day. Reason is that critical stuff gained more importance again with S13 since embassy consoles and leech are being replaced on builds. There are far less synergies nowadays but if there is one thing peeps can rely on again it’s some mad crits yo!  8)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: Another self check

Do I rather take Crit H or Crit D doff for space?

-> The ratio is Crit H : Crit D =  1:10 so similar to weapons
-> The Crit D doff presumably benefits more on high end builds.

Check Neela:

SourceCrit HCrit D

-> Crit D Doff at 2 stacks: 27,5/100 x (221+20)/100 + 1 = 1.66275

I try to get Crit D doffs.  :)
